with Georgia Bartlett-McNeil, Alyson Kissner, Miss Yankey and Mars O'Shea

(Fri 11 Nov: 7.30pm)

Showcasing the top spoken word talent from Scotland and the UK! From laugh-out-loud funny, through the wonderfully surreal, to the thoughtful and emotional – Loud Poets continue to prove that Spoken Word has something for everyone. Georgia Bartlett-McNeil is a 28-year-old poet living just outside Edinburgh. She has been writing for over 15 years and performing for 8 years. She has been published in Mxyogyny, Quotidian and Little Living Room literary magazines, has done a large amount of work with alcohol magnates Diageo, and her proudest achievement to date is supporting Shane Koyczan on the Edinburgh leg of his 2017 world tour. Her work varies from hard-hitting to hilarious and covers a broad spectrum of topics utilising beautifully crafted imagery, clever word choice and raw emotion to maximum effect.

Alyson Kissner is a Canadian-born poet completing her PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh. Both her creative and critical work interrogates themes of abuse, trauma, and tenderness. Alyson was recently a runner-up for Small Orange Journal’s Emerging Woman Poet Honour and was longlisted for the Rebecca Swift Foundation's Women Poets' Prize. She has been published in The Rumpus, Gutter Magazine, The Toast, and elsewhere. Alyson was co-winner of the 2022 Edwin Morgan Poetry Award.

British/Ghanaian Writer, Activist, and Spoken Word artist Miss Yankey has captivated audiences from London, to Paris, to New York, to Accra, and as far as Melbourne. Her energy is unmistakable, every word she spills is carefully crafted, performed with passion, and loaded with authenticity. An unapologetic advocate for women’s rights, mental health, and domestic violence awareness, X5 International Slam Champion Miss Yankey is determined to use poetry to impact the lives of others positively. Miss Yankey made her television debut on BAFTA Award-winning Life & Rhymes and recently made her second television appearance on BT Sports 'Sport In Words'. An accomplished poet, she has taken to the stage at a variety of events and festivals including Tramlines, Lambeth Country Show, Field Day, Neverworld, Edinburgh Fringe, Kind Fest, and The Vagina Festival.

Mars O'Shea is a therapist, poet, artist, and former gin distiller. They have published writing in multiple anthologies and journals, released two collections of poetry, including their latest pamphlet Werewolf Manifesto, and won the Loud Poets Fringe Slam in 2022. They also once attempted to purchase Winston Churchill's blood at auction to see if they could turn it into gin.
