Showcasing the top spoken word talent from Scotland and the UK! From laugh-out-loud funny, through the wonderfully surreal, to the thoughtful and emotional, Loud Poets continue to prove that spoken word poetry has something for everyone.
Edalia Day is a transgender spoken word artist, animator and theatre maker based in Norwich. Trained at Lecoq and Alra, her spoken word is full of energy and theatrical flair and her theatre combines comedy, live music and interactive projection mapping. Her shows include Super Hamlet 64, about videogames and Shakespeare and Too Pretty To Punch, about transphobia in the media. Since lockdown she's produced several successful projects combining animation and poetry, working with the Young Vic & Harrogate Theatre and Theatre Royal Norwich. Her work has featured at Sundance Film Festival in the US and Zebra Poetry Film Festival in Berlin.
Hannah Lavery is a poet and playwright. She was appointed Edinburgh Makar in 2021. Her poetry pamphlet, Finding Seaglass: Poems from The Drift was published by Stewed Rhubarb Press (May 2019) and her poem, Scotland You’re No Mine was selected as one the best Scottish poems for 2019. Her debut collection "Blood, Salt, Spring" is due for release in March 2022. The Drift, her autobiographical play, was produced by the National Theatre of Scotland for a nationwide tour in 2019. She was also awarded a New Playwright Award from Playwrights Studio Scotland and was named as one on BBC Writers Room Scottish Voices of 2020. In May 2020 she was selected as one of Owen Sheer’s Ten Writers Asking Questions That Will Shape Our Future For The International Literature Showcase, a project from the National Writing Centre and the British Council and she is one of Imaginate’s Accelerator Artists and an Associate Artist with the National Theatre of Scotland.
Bex Sherwood is a spoken word poet, and producer based in Edinburgh. Bex has a history of comedic poetry, and has performed in multiple Edinburgh Fringe runs with I Am Loud Productions. She placed second at the Stanza Slam in 2020, and has been published by Coin Operated Press. Additionally to their performance work, they released their debut pamphlet ‘Poetry for Cows’ in 2020, and continues to drive towards broader definitions of what constitutes spoken word poetry.
Bee Asha Singh is a spoken word artist born and living in Edinburgh. Between rap and poetry her work is a cathartic outlet that she uses to explore themes of sexuality, trauma and gender equality, characterised by an openness to talk about her lived experiences. In 2019 Asha starred in the BBC Documentary, Spit it Out. This year she has co-founded award winning charity, The Spit it Out Project, released her first album ‘From Girl to Men’, won the SAMA best newcomer award, and was featured in YWCA 30 under 30’s.
