Learning from the Kist

Storytelling Workshop (Part of Edinburgh Tradfest)

This workshop is a great opportunity for people interested in storytelling to develop their storytelling skills with assistance from two highly experienced storytellers, Donald Smith and Ruth Kirkpatrick. Donald and Ruth will demonstrate a variety of storytelling techniques and will each select a story from the many to be found on the Tobar an Dualchais/Kist o Riches website and re-tell it in a way which demonstrates some of these techniques. Participants will get the chance to practise the skills they have learnt as part of the workshop.

Please arrive at 1.45pm for registration, tea and coffee.

Donald Smith has been an active participant in Scots and Irish storytelling for over thirty years. He is a regular workshop leader, lecturer and mentor to developing storytellers. Donald started the Scottish International Storytelling Festival and is also a founding member of the Scottish Storytelling Forum and Edinburgh’s Guid Crack Club.

Ruth Kirkpatrick has been storytelling professionally for over 20 years. She is widely regarded as a tradition bearer, having been fortunate to spend time in the company of some of Scotland’s great storytellers, such as Duncan Williamson, Sheila Stewart, and Stanley Robertson.

This event is led by Tobar an Dualchais/Kist o Riches and is supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund.

Part of Edinburgh Tradfest.
