Exhibition: Thistles and Sunflowers Poetry Trail

Follow the Thistles and Sunflowers Poetry Trail and encounter 15 contemporary writers from Bulgaria and Scotland.
Stumble upon a poetic dialogue between Stefan Ivanov and Jim Mackintosh writ large on the exhibition wall of the Storytelling Court, framed by award-winning botanical art by Jenny Haslimeier, then browse through books of Bulgarian poetry in translation handpicked from the Scottish Poetry Library collection in our wee poetry nook. This exhibition will be displayed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre from Wed 18 May-Sat 11 June, free and non-ticketed. The Exhibition space is sometimes used for private bookings so please check ahead to confirm it is accessible for your visit.
Venture out to the secret Sandeman House Garden where the poetry trail continues hidden in plain sight – free and open to all, Monday-Thurday 9am–5pm.
Take a lunchtime tour at Scottish Poetry Library – the world's only purpose-built poetry library – with Toni Velikova, Assistant Librarian on Wednesdays 18 May, 25 May, 1 June and 8 June. Tours are free but ticketed via the Scottish Poetry Library website
Thistles and Sunflowers Poetry Trail is a partnership between Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Centre Scotland, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Scottish Book Trust, Reading Sofia Foundation, Bilingualism Matters, Found in Translation Book Club at Edinburgh Central Library and St John’s Episcopal Church, Edinburgh. Part of Thistles and Sunflowers Festival running 27-29 May 2022 at Scottish Storytelling Centre – a spotlight on stories and artists from the lands of thistles and sunflowers.
An initiative of Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Centre Scotland, Thistles and Sunflowers is curated by Iliyana Nedkova and Daniela Dimova-Yaneva and supported by Creative Scotland Cultural Organisations and Venues Recovery Fund; City of Edinburgh Council Flexible Fund, as well as Tasgadh Fund for Traditional Arts devolved from Creative Scotland and managed by Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
