Join the Edinburgh Writers' Forum for networking, drinks and what promises to be an entertaining and fascinating evening with guest speakers children’s writer Justin Davies and Edinburgh Bookshop owner Marie Moser.
After years spent flying around the world as cabin crew, Justin Davies finally hung up his wings to focus on writing books that children can lose themselves in. His first book, Help! I Smell a Monster (Orchard) won the Fantastic Book Awards in 2021. His new middle grade novel Haarville was published by Floris/Kelpies in February 2023. When not lost in his own imagination, Justin continues his lifelong quest to bake the perfect scone. He lives with his husband Andrew and Sally the rescue greyhound in the shadow of the Forth Bridge in Fife. Justin will be talking about his experiences writing for different publishers, working with an illustrator and giving us some tips on how to make book launches fun and interactive.
Marie Moser took over the Edinburgh Bookshop in 2012. Over the last decade the bookshop has grown in both size and reputation, developing a particular expertise in children’s books and winning many awards in the last decade including UK Children’s Bookshop of the Year in 2014 and Scottish Independent Bookshop of the Year in 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2022. She used to sell beer but is now much happier with a pile of books and a cup of tea! Marie will discuss how authors can best work with independent bookshops and give clarity on the retail side of the publishing puzzle.
