Queer Folks' Tales
with Turan Ali, Gingzilla, Ben Seal & Jade Stein
(Thu 5 Oct: 7:30pm)
Welcome to Queer Folks’ Tales, our hugely popular bi-monthly storytelling series where queer storytellers from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and cultures around Edinburgh and Scotland share stories of LGBTQ+ lives, past, present and future. Sometimes hilarious, often moving, occasionally shocking, the mix of true and fictional stories across the year is as varied as the range of storytellers we invite.
Household names feature alongside new and diverse queer storytellers from the different communities of Scotland. Many of the stories told in the Queer Folks' Tales evenings will be true stories of LGBTQ+ experience in Scotland today. Hosted by Edinburgh’s Turan Ali and featuring this month Gingzilla, Ben Seal and Jade Stein.
Turan Ali has been producing, directing and writing BBC Radio dramas and comedies for over 20 years. He has also been telling stories of queer lives and experiences on stage since 2012, and more recently as a stand up. His shows have toured internationally and he has two sell out monthly storytelling shows in Vienna.
Benjamin Hudson/Gingzilla: Benjamin is the creator and beautiful soul within the global sensation GINGZILLA: a Drag performer, actor, singer, energetic whirlwind and love-spreader who has raised the roof at so many shows and events from America’s Got Talent, XFactor UK, Queen Of The Universe and far too many others to mention. Expect gorgeous vibes and stellar stories from this much larger-than-life Australian jewel in our queer family.
Ben Seal (they/them) is a Fife-based music producer whose influences include clogs, clowns and clutter. They can be found raking through the bins of Greggs for vegan sausage rolls (though not a vegan) wearing some entirely inappropriate outfit. Expect upbeat musical nonsense from this them.
Jade Stein is a queer spoken word artist and Feminist, living in Edinburgh. Her work explores relationships, inequality, mental health, LGBTQ+ joy and many other topics. She is passionate about writing, spoken word and music. Her love of these practices is driven by the community they build, so she's a great fit for Queer Folks' Tales!
