Spoken Word, Poetry

Loud Poets

with Casey Bailey, JJ Fadaka, John Lawrie & Megan McCorquodale

(Fri 21 Jun: 7:30pm)

Don’t miss the next fantastic show from Scotland’s best spoken word night! From the laugh-out-loud funny, through the wonderfully surreal, to the thoughtful and emotional: Loud Poets continues to prove that spoken word offers something for everyone.

Casey Bailey is the Birmingham Poet Laureate 2020-2022. He is a writer, performer and educator born and raised in Nechells, Birmingham. Casey’s second full collection of poetry ‘Please Do Not Touch’ (2021) was published by Burning Eye Books. Casey has performed nationally and internationally, spent some time on a residency with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and taught, facilitated and led up and down the country. His debut poetry pamphlet ‘Waiting at Bloomsbury Park’ was published by Big White Shed (2017). His first full collection of poetry ‘Adjusted’ (2018) was published by Verve Poetry Press.

Jj Fadaka is a writer, facilitator and radical based in Edinburgh. Their writing explores the possibility abolition, feminism, and love give us to create change. Jj uses poetry to speak to the political urgencies we face whilst centring community and joy-making in building struggles against these.

John Lawrie is an Edinburgh based poet, and winner of the 2024 Scottish Book Trust new writers award for spoken word. He initially studied psychology at university, but quickly realised that spoken word and poetry provided much more exposure to mental illness and involved less maths. With a primary focus on identity, relationships and mental health, he delights in finding the humour and the horror in the everyday world we all seek to navigate.

Megan McCorquodale is a Glaswegian poet now living in Edinburgh. She has performed in spoken word events across Scotland and even at a punk gig or two! Megan has released two chapbooks amongst other publications. Megan's work centres around telling working class, queer and punk stories from her life.
