Gutscapes: Meditative Encounters with Microbial Messmates

(Tue 12 Nov: 5:30pm)

Multitudes of microbes live inside the human gut—we are a complex more-than-human ecology. But do you know where our gut microbes live, and how? In this event, Joana Formosinho of the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society at the University of Edinburgh at the University of Edinburgh and artists Baum and Leahy invite you into a meditative encounter with the wild landscapes inside our gut.

Through storytelling, guided visualisation, and tasting of foods, we will together explore what it feels like to be a multi-species collective. Come prepared to activate your imagination, your tastebuds and your senses.

This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 7–16 November 2024. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information please see beinghumanfestival.org.
