Traveller Storytelling in Scotland
with Robert Fell
(Fri 25 Oct: 4pm)
Drop in to meet Robert Fell, author of Traveller Storytelling in Scotland: Folklore, Ideology, Cultural Identity, an exciting new book about traditional storytelling in Scotland. The book reflects the SISF’s theme for 2024 by helping to build bridges between cultures through the power of storytelling, involving some of the most influential storytellers from Scotland’s Traveller and Nawken/Nacken communities. Join Robert in the relaxed surroundings of the Storytelling Court where he will be happy to answer any questions you may have, with discounted copies of his book also available to buy.
Traveller Storytelling in Scotland: Folklore, Ideology, Cultural Identity investigates archives, highlights key texts, and presents novel fieldwork that introduces readers to the vibrant folkloric expressions of these diverse communities. It connects ethnology and literary criticism to contextualise folklore and reveal how its ideological priorities underpin cultural identity. Using creative analytical techniques, Robert’s book is a lively and celebratory examination of a folkloric idiom that has, until now, been sorely underrepresented.
This event is free, drop-in and non-ticketed, just come along and enjoy.
