Ma Name is Isabelle
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025

(31 Jul-24 Aug)
A reimagining of the story behind the famous bothy ballad Bogie’s Bonnie Belle, which deals with farm life, class and love, but never from the perspective of the titular Belle.
Told entirely in Doric, the traditional dialect spoken in the north-east of Scotland, this spoken word performance by Lucy Beth unveils Isabelle's story. A young woman impregnated against her will, ostracised as an unmarried mother and separated from her son, Isabelle's journey is marked by her resilience, strength and triumph over adversity.
