What is... Traditional Dance?

with Pat Ballantyne | Edinburgh Tradfest 2026

(Sun 3 May: 11am)

We’ve probably all been to a cèilidh dance; maybe even seen dancing at a Highland Games; but what actually is understood by ‘Traditional Dance’ in Scotland? Join author, scholar, dancer and dance teacher Pat Ballantyne to find out, in the relaxed environment of the George Mackay Brown Library (or, if you prefer, in the comfort of your own home).

If joining us in-person, stay on afterwards for an introductory session with Pat to try Step Dance yourself!
