From the laugh-out-loud funny, through the wonderfully surreal, to the thoughtful and emotional: Loud Poets continues to prove that spoken word offers something for everyone. ~~~~~ David Macpherson is a screenwriter, author and performance poet who grew up in wilds of the Highlands of Scotland and now lives in Edinburgh. He has a dream (shared with Kev) to eventually bring together the worlds of poetry and professional wrestling or to one day do a show where he gets to dress up as Freddie Mercury, although he worries he doesn't have the cheek bones for it. He also recently made a big time TV show but as an endearingly humble person - who definitely didn't write this glowing portrait of himself - has returned to the world of poetry because, as we all know, that's where the real money is. Spencer Mason is a storyteller of endless forms based in Glasgow's East End. Winner of the inaugural Lock In Slam in 2024, they have placed runner-up in the Roundhouse Slam Championship 2022 and Loud Poets West Regional Slam 2024, and won the Rosamund Prize in 2023 for collaborations between musical composition and poetry. Following a Bachelors in songwriting and MA in Creative Writing, Mason was nominated for the 2023 Best Musical Spoken Word Project for their debut narrative album The Fox & The Butterfly released in October 2023. Their debut chapbook Times I Thought Silence Could Save Me will be published by Dreich this spring. Donna Matthew started writing poetry in November 2020 in the midst of the global pandemic as a way of healing from the death of her mum and the breakdown of her marriage. Donna founded Poets in Paisley in 2021, and begun running events where emerging poets could share space with established poets. In 2023 she established her events production company Donna Matthew Creative. Donna’s work explores themes of self, humanity and - what connects us all - love. Her debut collection Remembering Myself was published in May 2024 by Seahorse Publications. Cara Thompson is a writer, performer and artivist based in Nottingham. A proud descendant of Jamaican migrants who came to Britain as part of the Windrush generation, Cara's work explores the richness of her Caribbean-British heritage while inviting audiences to unpack our shared histories and humanity. Cara's poetry has been featured by Penguin Random House, Huffpost, UNESCO, Simon and Schuster and more.
