Spoken Word, Poetry

Loud Poets

with Josie Alford, Marjorie Lotfi, Paul Case and Naomi Head

(Fri 12 May: 7:30pm)

Don’t miss the next fantastic show from Scotland’s best spoken word night! From laugh-out-loud funny, through the wonderfully surreal, to the thoughtful and emotional – Loud Poets continue to prove that Spoken Word has something for everyone.

Josie Alford is a Bristol-based poet and freelance creative. Her stage presence is sequinned, pop culture referencing, infectious, & welcoming. Once seen, never forgotten, her work ranges from the subtlety of dealing with loss to analysing the nuanced discography of the Spice Girls. Her debut collection Faulty Manufacturing is out with Verve Poetry Press.

Marjorie Lotfi is an Iranian-American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years. Her writing considers displacement, home and belonging, particularly relating to the lives of refugees and migrants. Her work has been published and anthologized widely (including in Scotland’s Best Poems) and been performed on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 4 and her first collection The Wrong Person to Ask will be published by Bloodaxe Books in autumn of 2023

Paul Case is an Edinburgh-based spoken word artist, performing monologues, poems and stories since 2007. He has performed all over the UK and internationally, and his diverse range of prose and poetry has been published by Influx Press, Class War and The Erotic Review amongst many others.

Naomi Head is a writer and poet based in Edinburgh. She uses writing to process her emotions and mental health challenges. Her work explores her relationships with food, family, friends, identity and belonging. Naomi's poetry has been shared and published by Sunday Mornings at the River, SNACK Mag and Scran Press. Her poem Kitchen Love part 1 will be published with Edinburgh Literary Salon later this summer.
