Pomegranates Day 1

Festival of International Traditional Dance (Part of Edinburgh Tradfest)

(Fri 28 Apr: 7pm)

Join us for an evening of duets.

Start at the Storytelling Court with a curatorial guided tour by Iliyana Nedkova of Duets, the first solo exhibition in Scotland by the Pomegranates 2023 festival artist-in-residence Gabriel Schmitz.

Then take your seat at the Netherbow Theatre for a triple bill:

See the return to stage of Thistles and Sunflowers Dance Fusion – one of the commissioned highlights of the Thistles and Sunflowers festival which premiered as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022. Choreographed and performed by the trad dance duo Ariana Stoyanova and Alexis Street, it draws on the parallels between Scottish and Bulgarian folk dance traditions, regional variations and friendships. Be the first to cross the cultural bridge led by a duo of folk dancers from Germany, part of the new Cultural Bridge project of global intangible heritage exchange between Folk Dance Society of Germany and Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland.

Finally, experience a Hidden Door Duet in the making; a new choreography based on Chinese Folk dance by Yuxi Jiang for two Scottish dancers co-commissioned by Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland and Hidden Door Festival.

~~~~~~~~~~
We welcome the return of Pomegranates, the annual springtime festival sowing the seeds of international traditional dance. Initiated and curated by the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland, Pomegranates will once again mark UNESCO’s International Dance Day (29 Apr) across Edinburgh.
