Edinburgh Writers' Forum
March Meeting
(Tue 14 March: 7pm)
Please join the Edinburgh Writers' Forum March meeting for what promises to be a fascinating and enlightening evening for writers. Our guest speakers are writer Heather Parry, who also works with the Society of Authors, and James Appleby, a translator, editor and poet.
Heather Parry is a Glasgow-based writer, editor, and publisher. She is the co-founder and Editorial Director of Extra Teeth magazine, co-host of the Teenage Scream podcast and the Scottish Senior Policy & Liaison Manager for the Society of Authors, a trade union for writers. In 2021 she created the free-access Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide with artist Maria Stoian. Her short stories and nonfiction have been published internationally, and her debut novel Orpheus Builds a Girl was published in October 2022 with Gallic Books. Heather will be speaking about her work for the Society of Authors as well as sharing some words of wisdom on finances for authors and freelancers.
James Appleby is a translator, editor, and poet. His work appears or is forthcoming in Stand, The North, New Welsh Review and Poetry Scotland among others. In his role as editor of Interpret, Scotland's magazine of international writing, James has appeared at London Book Fair and the Edinburgh International Culture Summit at the Scottish Parliament. His translations have been read at numerous literary festivals and he has completed a residency at the Sofia Literature and Translation House, Bulgaria. James will be speaking about some of the different aspects of his busy portfolio career – writing and translating poetry, and his role as magazine editor - as well as giving some more general guidance on how to submit to literary magazines.
