EIIF: Horizontal vs Vertical Support

Vertical support is when you play the pattern: do it again, but bigger. Horizontal is when you expand the story and world AROUND the pattern (find the backstory, find the motivation).
Everyone tends to do one or the other. But a good improviser can do both.
Play the pattern, expand the story, repeat. If you're someone whose scenes have trouble going beyond 2 minutes, this can help!
Will Hines has been teaching long-form improv since 2004 at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre at both its New York and Los Angeles branches. He's published a best-selling book on improv called How to Be The Greatest Improviser on Earth. He's also a working comedic actor and has appeared on many terrific television programs (Brooklyn 99, Search Party, Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer). He's also the founder of the audaciously-named World's Greatest Improv School, an online and in-person improv school.

If you are willing and able to donate a workshop place to another festival goer you can! Click the button above and select the ticket type you would like to donate. EIIF will then be able to offer a free place to someone who would not have been able to attend otherwise.
A booking fee of £1.50 is charged per transaction. If you have to drop out of a class before Jan 31st 2024 you will receive a refund (minus booking fee). If you drop out after Jan 31st 2024 you are not entitled to a refund, unless there is someone on a waitlist willing to take your spot, in which case you will be refunded (minus booking fee).
