Easy Sundays: Come and Try Straw Work
with Elaine Lindsay (Presented by TRACS)
(Sun 27 Sep: 12pm)
Celebrate harvest time creatively, learning the seasonal craft of straw work with expert Elaine Lindsay from Something Corny. Discover this endangered tradition during this drop-in, hands-on afternoon and leave with your own hand-made corn dollies. Presented by TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland).
A straw worker for over 40 years, Elaine Lindsay breathes life into this heritage practice she used to hear about from her grandfather, a farm labourer around her native Inverurie. She is an expert hand at crafting traditional corn dollies as well as her own contemporary designs, believing that while we must remember where the craft came from, it is so important to push the craft forward if it is to continue into the future. Elaine joined the Guild of Straw Craftsmen in 1989 and achieved a Craftsman Award with them in 1999. She is a founding member of the Scottish Straw Workers as well as a member of the National Association of Wheat Weavers and the California Straw Arts Guild in the US.
This session is free and non-ticketed, just drop in between 12 and 3pm.
