Rewilding Scotland's Epics: The Ossian Cycle

Rewilding Scotland’s Epics restores the natural power and connection of our oldest storytelling cycles through live contemporary retellings. The Ossian Cycle brings Fionn, Gráinne, Diarmuid, Ossian, Niamh and many others to passionate life, in a space between magic and mayhem, mystery and full-blooded emotion.

In Part One, deer, salmon and hounds transform to weave the guiding patterns of the cycle in the lives of the Fianna fellowship. In Part Two, the quest for the cup of healing, and the pull of the sea, take the Ossian cycle into new dimensions of beauty and danger. In Part Three, the wooing of Gráinne and the Boar of Ben Gulban dramatically break Fianna forever, but Niamh pits her island of the ever-young against the tragic pull of earth and home.

This year’s Festival explores the rich relationship between storytelling and the natural world through our theme Bird and Beast. Alongside a vibrant programme at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, storytellers across Scotland bring these tales to life this autumn through the Go Local programme. We proudly celebrate Scotland’s cèilidh tradition with an invitation into the story circle, extending a warm welcome to international guests who share their stories, traditions and contemporary practices alongside Scotland’s own world-class talent. Join us for some unforgettable tales and moments that bring us closer to nature, as we follow the trail of footprints and feathers and let our imagination take flight.
